Angela Rayner joins the Erewash Labour team to help stop sewage pollution

We were very pleased to welcome the deputy leader of the Labour Party, Angela Rayner MP, today for a discussion about sewage pollution in Long Eaton’s West Park.
Angela joined our parliamentary candidate, Dr Adam Thompson, as well as Councillor James Dawson and several of our local election candidates, to discuss the dreadful sewage pollution affecting local brooks and rivers.
Adam, James and the team explained the situation in West Park to Angela, who was disgusted to hear that sewage regular flows into the Golden Brook and then out onto West Park during floods. She was particularly upset to hear about the Brook’s proximity to the children’s play area, the Splash pad, the skatepark and the BMX track.
Angela was pleased, however, to explain to the local Labour team that a Labour government would end this practice and pointed to the choices made by this Conservative government as the root cause behind why sewage dumping happens in our park.
Dr Adam Thompson said “I’m really pleased to have Angela visit us today, because it’s clear that she and the national Labour Party care about us in Long Eaton and the rest of Erewash.
“The Tories gave the green light to water companies to let this happen and we have to work as hard as we can together to stop it.
“A Labour council will work to lobby government to stop sewage dumping in our towns and villages, and a Labour government will stop the dumping forever.”
