Meet your council candidates: Derby Road East
22 March 2019
I have lived in Long Eaton for over 40 years and prior to retirement I worked at Toton sidings. I have wide experience of local government and have been an Erewash Borough Councillor for over 39 years.
Serving as a school governor for many years has given me an insight into the complex issues facing schools.
As a former committee chair and Council cabinet member I was able oversee the creation of the Nutbrook Trail, several nature reserves, pedestrianisation and the first Erewash Local Plan. I also succeeded in making major improvements to town centre car parks, including resurfacing, proper lighting and CCTV.
I have campaigned strongly about such issues as littering and fly tipping. I have sought to encourage Erewash Council to be more proactive in identifying culprits and clearing dumped material quickly.
I have lived in Long Eaton for the past 25 years and alongside my husband, Howard Griffiths, have served as a Councillor on Erewash Borough for nearly 20 years.
During this time I have worked to improve the street cleanliness, reporting litter, dog fouling and getting bins emptied. This is an ongoing issue in the area.
I want to see a greater variety of shops in our town centre and better traffic management to make the roads safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
I am absolutely against HS2. It will bring desolation to our Town which we can well do without.
